Unreal Engine
Club KAOS
Story Synopsis
In the heart of a city lies a haven of pulsating, vibrant neon ambiance, Club KAOS. Towering above the crowd and lively dance floor is the DJ booth, a throne for icons like Daft Punk to work their magic. As the mood setters, their booth is lined with veins of red and black, building to the top where they take control of the room’s mood and create chaos.
Surrounding the booth is the dance floor, a beacon of light with its kaleidoscope of glowing tiles, casting a glow on whoever steps foot on the stage. Bottles, cigarettes, and discarded keepsakes litter the floor, all symbols of ones who abandoned themselves for the night.
Perched on elevated platforms, the tables serve as altars to craving satisfaction, as they are strewn with remnants of guilty pleasures… cups, ashtrays, and half-finished drinks. Vines and leaves flood down the walls, nature reclaiming its place amidst the utopian chaos.
Around the sides of the room, pillars adorned with vibrant veins pulse with life as their speakers create a blasting heartbeat. Behind the greenery, a waterfall cascades, creating a mesmerizing backdrop and ambiance for the crowd.
Amidst the colours and illuminated by spotlights: “Till Death Do Us Party.” glows as a welcome and warning to the dance floor. It’s a promise for a memorable night and a warning for whoever may lose themselves on the dancefloor.
As the night unfolds, Club KAOS becomes more than just a venue; it’s where memories are present, heartbeats are created, and every moment is blissful. Where karma and chaos converge, it’s KAOS.
Lighting and Techniques
I primarily used spotlights as these specific lights were able to shine on places and mix colours exactly how I wanted them to. On the dance floor, it lit up different spots with various colours, mixing with the exponential height fog; it created a perfect effect. The texture of the water and the ripples lit up and were made very prominent by the various colours and intensity along the wall. The spotlights were most suitable for controlling the intensity, area, and cones, as they made lighting up areas in specific ways very easy. On the dance floor, I created a very small outer cone and a direct inner cone to light up a specific area on the floor and added around 15 more of them to cover a large area but with different colours. Spotlights with a larger outer cone were used along the pathway to the DJ booth to create less of a harsh feel. Besides the spotlights, I used two point lights at the top ends of the DJ booth. This created a more significant focal point on the word KAOS and another light for the DJs.
Water Elements
I focused on creating a moving water element within Unreal Engine that combined realistic fluidity with vibrant lighting effects. To start, I designed the water material, adjusting its surface properties to achieve lifelike reflections and ripples. Once the water was in place, I added dynamic, colorful lights positioned strategically around the scene. By tweaking the light settings, such as intensity and color, I achieved a striking effect where the lights shimmered and danced across the water’s surface.
This technique not only enhanced the visual appeal but also added depth and atmosphere to the scene, showcasing the interplay between light and water in a captivating way. The result was a dynamic and immersive environment that highlighted the skills I learned through Unreal Engine’s rendering capabilities.
